‘I am Back To My Best’, Lingard Declares
Jesse Lingard is adamant his recent performances suggest he is back to his brilliant best following a fallow period in his Manchester United career.
Lingard endured a tough start to the campaign and only made his first Premier League start in over two months against Tottenham Hotspurs last week.
The United academy graduate was again selected from the start as the Red Devils earned a shock 2-1 victory away to champions Manchester City last Saturday.
Lingard’s form has drawn criticism from a number of Manchester United fans especially as the club struggled to assert their authority in the league.
He has failed to register a goal or an assist in the Premier League this year but did find the back of the net when captaining the side to a 2-1 loss to Astana in the Europa League last month.
England manager Gareth Southgate has had to leave the 26-year-old out of his recent call ups but as Manchester United have started climbing up the table on the back of their recent successive victories, Lingard is sure his tough period is behind him.
He told Sky Sports: “I feel good, I feel back to myself, I feel fit, I feel sharp.
“I love working for the team, I love winning games and playing matches.”
Pressed further on whether the “Jesse he knows” has returned, Lingard added: “Yes, he's back now, he's back, he is there.
“People go through dips in form, it's just about finding the right balance and getting back to your usual self which I have.
“Of course you're frustrated when you're not playing. You've still got to have the right attitude and right mentality when you do go on and try to make an impact. I felt like I did against Sheffield United and from there I've kicked on.”
