Fonseca Backs Mourinho For Roma Success
Paulo Fonseca has backed Jose Mourinho to succeed at AS Roma when he takes his job at the Stadio Olympico at the end of the season.
Fonseca’s two-year spell in charge of the Giallorossi will come to an end in the summer and Mourinho, who was sacked by Tottenham Hotspur a fortnight ago, has agreed a three-year contract to take over the Rome based club.
Mourinho’s agreement to join Roma marks a return to Italian football, where he won a famous treble with Inter Milan in the 2009/2010 season before departing for Real Madrid.
The 58-year-old Portuguese, a two-time Champions League winner, has won league titles in Portugal, England, Italy and Spain, leaving Fonseca convinced that Roma will be in good hands when Mourinho takes over.
“For me, professionalism is something I believe is very important," Fonseca said at his press conference ahead of Thursday's Europa League clash against Manchester United.
“I am OK, I am focused on things here just like I was the very first day I got here.
“I am motivated. I want to do the best I can for Roma for as long as I am still here. Mourinho is a great coach, everyone knows that, and I am sure he will do a great job here.”
