Fabian Ruiz Puts Contract Talks With Napoli On Hold
Fabian Ruiz’s agent, Alvaro Torres, has confirmed that his client has put contract talks with Napoli on hold until the end of the season after some of Europe’s biggest clubs showed interest.
Ruiz has become one of Europe’s hottest properties ever since he helped Spain win the 2019 UEFA U-21 Championship, where he was named player of the tournament.
The 23-year-old playmaker moved to Naples from Real Betis in the summer of 2018 on a five-year contract that expires in 2023.
Napoli have endured a difficult campaign so far which has seen them replace Carlo Ancelotti with Gennaro Gattuso, leading to suggestions that Ruiz could look for a different home.
Barcelona and Real Madrid are among potential suitors, and agent Torres has done little to pour cold water on transfer rumors circulating but admits his client is focused on completing the season with Napoli.
'There have been many changes in the club this season, it's been a difficult year for Napoli,' Torres told MARCA.
'A renewal? We have set aside negotiations for a while, until the end of the season. There are very important clubs that have asked for information, and we have already informed Napoli.
'All these clubs believe that he is a midfielder who is going to be one of the players of the decade.
'There is no release clause in his current contract. I really don't know what Ruiz's value is at present.
'In the short term he is focused on Napoli and at the end we will see.'
Ruiz has made 32 appearances in all competitions for Napoli this season, scoring three goals.
