The German champions have the option to extend the deal by a further year when the temporary move ends.

The move effectively ends Dier's nine-and-a-half-year stay at Tottenham Hotspurs which began in 2014 following a £4m move from Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon.

Dier has since made 365 appearances for Spurs and scored 13 goals but has only played four times under Ange Postecoglou this term.

With six months left on his contract in North London, Dier has opted to change clubs.

A statement from Bayern read: "FC Bayern have signed Eric Dier from Tottenham Hotspur on a deal until 30 June 2024, with the option for a further year. The England international defender will wear the No.15 shirt in Munich."

The 29-year-old said upon his confirmation as a Bayern player: "This move is a dream come true for me, because as a child you want to play for a club like Bayern one day.

"Bayern is one of the biggest clubs in the world and has an incredible history. I want to help the team with my versatility in defence.

"I’m really looking forward to my new teammates and the fans at the Allianz Arena, which in my eyes is one of the best stadiums in the world."

Dier's transfer to the Allianz Arena sees him reunite with his former Spurs teammate Harry Kane, who joined last summer.
