Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has criticised some French and English media outlets over the use of his image in crafting stories about Manchester City defender, Benjamin Mendy, who is standing trial over rape allegations.

Benjamin is in police custody after being charged with six counts of rape and one sexual assault case.

The France international, who won the World Cup in 2018, has been suspended by the English champions since his issues came to light.

Edouard has seen his image used by some media outlets, instead of Benjamin's, when reporting on the case and has called out those involved on social media.

‘Sad to see in 2021, in France as well as in England, for some, black people have neither names nor distinct face,’ he said.

‘These ‘mistakes’ of photos appear anecdotal, but they are quite the opposite, they are highly symbolic.

‘It’s not that complicated to differentiate two faces, especially when the football jersey is of valuable help.’

Real Madrid's French left back Ferland Mendy has also doubled down on Edouard's comments after seeing his image used in some publications about the same issue.

‘Thank you Edouard Mendy! We are in 2021,’ he said followed by three sad face emojis.

‘STOP! It will take time but you will end up respecting us! Whether you like it or not’, he added.
