Coutinho Sidelined For Two Weeks After Ankle Surgery
Philippe Coutinho will be sidelined for two weeks after undergoing a minor operation on an ankle problem.
Bayern Munich announced on Friday that the Brazilian international has undergone surgery to remove loose fragments in his right ankle joint.
With the Bundesliga already on suspension because of the Coronavirus pandemic, it looks highly unlikely that Coutinho will miss any games for the Bavarians though plans are in place to restart next month.
On Thursday, the German Football League(DFL) outlined plans to resume the Bundesliga on May 9 under strict guidelines, pending approval from the German government, who have banned large public gatherings in the country until the end of August.
There are still nine matchdays to fulfill in the Bundesliga, with Bayern Munich top of the table, four points clear of second placed Borussia Dortmund.
Coutinho, who is on a season-long loan from Spanish champions Barcelona, has made 32 appearances in all competitions this seasons, scoring nine goals.
The 27-year-old’s future has been shrouded in mystery in recent weeks with reports indicating that Bayern Munich are unwilling to exercise their option to purchase him permanently from Barcelona.
Barcelona are willing to offload the services of the former Liverpool man, and he has been linked with a return to England as Chelsea are reportedly interested in bringing him to Stamford Bridge.
