Chiellini To Play On For At Least One More Season
Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini is not planning on hanging up his boots anytime soon as he targets extending his playing career for at least one more season.
The 35-year-old Italian international has spent majority of the 2019/2020 season on the sidelines after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament damage to his right knee back in August that put him out of action for six months.
Chiellini returned to action in February but the Serie A season was suspended shortly after because of the coronavirus pandemic, which has restricted him to three appearances in all competitions this term.
The former Fiorentina defender is keen on representing Italy in one final major tournament at EURO 2020, which has been rescheduled for next summer, before plotting the next move of his career.
"I will play another year, then I'll see how I feel and how my legs hold up," Chiellini told actress Martina Colombari, the wife of former Milan and Italy defender Alessandro Costacurta, in an Instagram Live chat.
"I could retire next summer or have another season after that. I would like to continue in football, probably more a directorial role than management, but you never know in life.
"I hope to get there [Euro 2020] in excellent condition to live this last international event to the fullest.
"We have experienced players and many strong youngsters. Ending with a great European [Championship] would be a great satisfaction, closing the circle."
Chiellini could win a fifth Coppa Italia trophy with Juventus when they meet Napoli in this season’s final on Wednesday.
