Chelsea Smash Four Past Crystal Palace At The Bridge
Chelsea put four unanswered goals past Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge on Saturday to record their second league win of the season.
The Blues now have seven points from four games with the likes of Ben Chilwell, Kurt Zouma and Jorginho all on target for Frank Lampard’s men.
For the first time this season, Lampard had a good number of his summer recruits in his starting eleven as goalkeeper Edouard Mendy and Ben Chilwell made their league debuts while Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Thiago Silva all featured from the off.
Palace did enough to frustrate Chelsea in the first half, with a Werner shot which was straight at goalkeeper Vicente Guaita, the closest the hosts came to an opener.
However, after the break, the visitors could offer little resistance to Chelsea’s attacking play.
Lampard’s men took a deserved lead four minutes after the break when Chilwell, making his league debut for his new club, smashed home a loose ball in the Palace penalty area.
The England left back was again the architect for Chelsea’s second of the day as Zouma rose highest to head home Chilwell’s cross in the 66th minute.
Tyrick Mitchell brought down Tammy Abraham in the penalty box in the 77th minute and Jorginho stepped forward to tuck home the resulting spot kick.
Referee Michael Oliver again pointed to the spot for the fifth time in two Premier League games when Mamadou Sakho tripped Kai Havertz, allowing Jorginho to send Guaita the wrong way for Chelsea’s fourth of the day.
