Chelsea Fight Back To Blunt Blades
Chelsea came from a goal down to beat Sheffield United 4-1 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
The win takes Chelsea into third place while Sheffield United are rock bottom with just one point from eight games.
Aaron Ramsdale in the Sheffield United goal repelled Chelsea’s first effort of the game from Ben Chilwell in the 4th minute before the visitors took the lead against all odds five minutes later.
The Blades outsmarted the Blues from a well worked corner and David McGoldrick was on hand to cleverly divert Sander Berg’s shot past Edouard Mendy.
Chelsea found their equaliser in the 23rd minute through Tammy Abraham, who struck home Mateo Kovacic’s cut back after a wonderful ball over the top from Hakim Ziyech.
A scramble in the Sheffield penalty area led to Timo Werner striking the crossbar with his effort in the 34th minute but Frank Lampard’s men got a deserved lead a few seconds later.
A short corner was played out to Ziyech, and the Moroccan’s cross was tucked in at the far post by Chilwell for his second goal in Chelsea colours.
Chelsea had to wait until 13 minutes from time to get their third goal and it came through summer signing Thiago Silva, who timed his run perfectly to head home Ziyech’s corner.
Ziyech nearly provided his second assist of the day almost immediately with a superb clipped ball over the top for Werner but German’s lob over Ramsdale went agonizingly wide.
But Werner got better luck a minute later when an attempted clearance found him in the Sheffield box and he made no mistake riffling home Chelsea’s fourth of the day.
