BREAKING: Tottenham Sign Steven Bergwijn From PSV
Tottenham Hotspur have announced the signing of Steven Bergwijn from Eredivisie outfit PSV Eindhoven on a five-and-a-half-year deal after successfully passing a medical on Tuesday.
The 22-year-old made his first team debut in 2014, and went on to establish himself as a regular starter in the PSV team during 2016/17 season when he made 33 appearances for the Rood-Witten.
Bergwijn scored 31 goals in 146 appearances across all competitions for PSV, winning three Eredivisie titles in the process.
His impressive form at club level earned him an international call-up, where he made his debut for the Netherlands in a 3-0 win against Germany in the UEFA Nations League. Since then Bergwijn has played eight more games for the Clockwork Orange.
Few minutes after signing for Spurs, the Dutchman said it is a dream to play for a team like Tottenham, and he is relishing the idea of playing in the Premier League.
"I think it's an amazing move, an amazing club,” Bergwijn told the club’s official website.
“Whatever I can bring, I will give it for this club and for this team.”
"It's a dream for every football player to play in the Premier League. The atmosphere - the stadiums are always full.”
"I want to score goals, give assists and win the Champions League. Last season, I loved to see them beat Ajax (in the Champions League semi-final).”
"When I was a young boy, I looked to the coach Mourinho, and now I play for him. To play here it's a dream for me, it's an honour."
