Carvajal Lauds Courtois Input In Getafe Win
Dani Carvajal has lauded the performance of Thibaut Courtois after the Belgian goalkeeper produced an inspired display against Getafe in La Liga on Saturday.
Courtois produced a string of impressive first half saves to deny Getafe from taking the lead before Zinedine Zidane’s men went on to record a resounding 3-0 victory.
Two goals from Raphael Varane and a late Luka Modric third ensured that Real Madrid moved level on 40 points with Barcelona, who were held to a 2-2 draw at Espanyol later in the day.
Courtois came in for immense criticism in the early stages of his Real Madrid career but his latest shutout means the former Chelsea goalkeeper has now kept nine clean sheets in his last 12 games for Los Blancos.
Despite Madrid’s convincing win, Carvajal was quick to highlight the impact of the man between the sticks after the game.
“He kept us in the match with his two or three great saves,” Carvajal told Marca.
“Nobody doubted his potential, not even himself. He is a great goalkeeper and I’m sure he’ll win us many more points.”
Getafe boss Jose Bordalas added to Carvajal’s assessment of Courtois after the game, saying: “I think Courtois has been the best of the opposing team. The result seems excessive to me and I think we deserve more.”
Real Madrid are back in action on Wednesday when they face Valencia in the semi-finals of the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia.
