Breaking News: Pele Passes On Aged 82

Born Edson Arantes Do Nascimento, Pele is widely regarded as the greatest footballer to have ever lived.

Pele is the only player to have won the FIFA World Cup three times in 1958, 1962 and 1970.

His goal tally of 1,281 in 1,363 appearances is considered a world record by the Guinness Book of Records.

Pele spent 18 years of his club career with Santos, where he won six league titles and scored 643 goals in 659 games.

On the international stage, Pele scored 77 goals for Brazil, a record that still stands today but is likely to eventually be broken by Neymar, who pulled level at the World Cup in Qatar.

Pele has been battling ill health for some time after he was diagnosed with Colon cancer in September 2021.

He was admitted at the Albert Einstein hospital in Sao Paulo at the end of November and spent Christmas there.

Following Pele's death, the hospital subsequently released a medical report that read: "The Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein confirms with regret the death of Edson Arantes do Nascimento, Pelé, today, December 29, 2022, at 3:27 p.m., due to multiple organ failure, a result of the progression of colon cancer associated with his previous clinical condition.

"The Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein sympathises with the family and all who suffer from the loss of our dear King of Football."
