BREAKING NEWS: Mourinho Appointed New AS Roma Manager
AS Roma have appointed Jose Mourinho as manager from next season after it was announced that Paulo Fonseca will be leaving the club at the end of this campaign.
Mourinho was sacked as manager of Tottenham Hotspurs barely two weeks ago after 17 months in charge of the North London outfit but the Portuguese has secured a swift return to management.
This will be Mourinho’s second spell as a manager in Italy, having enjoyed a two-year stint in charge of Inter Milan between 2008 and 2010, winning a famous treble in his final season at the club.
The 58-year-old former Manchester United, Chelsea and Real Madrid manager has agreed a three-year contract to take charge of the Stadio Olympico outfit.
In a statement released on the club's official website, president Dan Friedkin and vice-president Ryan Friedkin said: "We are thrilled and delighted to welcome Jose Mourinho into the AS Roma family.
“A great champion who has won trophies at every level, Jose will provide tremendous leadership and experience to our ambitious project.
"The appointment of Jose is a huge step in building a long-term and consistent winning culture throughout the club."
"After meetings with the ownership and Tiago Pinto, I immediately understood the full extent of their ambitions for AS Roma," Mourinho told the club's website.
"It is the same ambition and drive that has always motivated me and together we want to build a winning project over the upcoming years.
"The incredible passion of the Roma fans convinced me to accept the job and I cannot wait to start next season."
