Klopp Chose Liverpool Over Real Madrid and Manchester United – Fowler
Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler claims Jurgen Klopp told him several years ago that he rejected Real Madrid and Manchester United in favour of the Reds.
Klopp was reportedly offered the Manchester United job before the appointment of Louis Van Gaal, but Robbie Fowler claims the former Borussia Dortmund manager rejected it because he could not get the Red Devils’ vision.
His appointment has brought Liverpool back to the upper echelons of European football, having led them to back-to-back Champions League finals and a sixth European cup win last season.
Liverpool currently sit top of the Premier League table and are eight points clear of closest rivals Manchester City after their 100% start to the season.
Fowler in his written column in the Mirror said Klopp told him he has a special love for Liverpool and he hated how the likes of United and Real Madrid were focused on finances.
"I did an interview with him a couple of years ago and he told me he turned down a couple of super-rich clubs after Dortmund – one of them was definitely Manchester United, the other probably Real Madrid – because he hated how they were focused solely on commercial influences”, Fowler wrote in the Mirror.
"He said he liked Liverpool because they had a balance between the money needed to reach the top and the history and identity of the club and their fans."
In recent times, Klopp has received several praises from football fans and managers for the remarkable work he is doing at Anfield.
