Abidal Refuses To Give Up On Neymar’s Barcelona Return
Barcelona’s sporting director Eric Abidal has refused to give up on Neymar making a return to the Camp Nou in the future.
Neymar was rumored to be looking for a way out of Paris Saint Germain in the summer just two years after joining from Barcelona for a world-record fee of €222m.
Barcelona were thought to be the likeliest destination for Neymar if he was to depart the Parc des Princes though Real Madrid were also interested in brokering a deal for the 27-year-old.
With Neymar staying put in the French capital after a move away failed to materialize, Barcelona will have to wait a while longer to resurrect a deal for the Brazilian, and Abidal has opened the door for his second spell at the club.
"A top player, who has a Barca philosophy and who is performing at a high level, will always be an option," Abidal said of Neymar to Mundo Deportivo.
"From there, at the sports level we can make decisions, but the whole financial issue, there are things that you can reach and others that you cannot.
"The future will say. If it continues at this level, because the season is very long, I will not say that it will be option number 1 but it can be a clear option."
Neymar was supposed to be the missing piece of the puzzle when he joined the French champions in their quest to make a meaningful impact in Europe but injuries have robbed him off that chance.
The former Santos forward has played five games and scored four goals for PSG this season.
