Josh King Describes Ramos As A

By Max Wise

Sergio Ramos earned a rare plaudit on Saturday as Norwegian forward Josh King described the Real Madrid centre-back as a 'nice defender'.'

Ramos is one of the most vilified footballers in world football and is often described as a master of the dark arts in defending.

But Josh King described Ramos in a way that the defender has arguably not been defined after Spain's 2-1 win over Norway.

Spain won the EURO 2020 qualifying game courtesy Ramos’ panenka penalty after Josh King cancelled out Rodrigo’s opener for the hosts.

For all his achievements and status as one of the best defenders in the world, it is his disciplinary record that has constantly counted against Ramos.

Ramos is infamous for holding some wretched disciplinary records including the most red-carded player in the history of La Liga, the most carded player in the history of the UEFA Champions League and the most carded player in the history of the Spanish national team.

Ramos courted controversy last season as he was adjudged to have deliberately injured Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah in the Champions League final.

Bournemouth striker Josh King came up against Ramos in Saturday’s game and he admitted afterwards that the world cup winner has been wrongly portrayed in the media.

"I think that I did really well against one of the best center-backs in the world," King told Norwegian outlet VG.

"Ramos has a reputation of being dirty and rough, but I do not remember going up against a center-back as nice as him.

"I have not seen all of his matches but I think all of his challenges were clean and he seemed to me a very good sportsman.

"He won some duels and I won others, I think it was a good game."
