Yaya Toure has compared Mesut Ozil's talents to that of his former Manchester City teammate David Silva after the former Germany international announced his retirement from football.

Ozil called time on his professional career on Wednesday, citing physical issues as a contributing factor.

Widely regarded as one of the most gifted playmakers of his generation, Ozil turned out for clubs including Schalke 04, Werder Bremen, Real Madrid, Arsenal and Fenerbahce.

Ozil won 92 caps for Germany, scoring 23 goals and won the FIFA World Cup in Brazil in 2014.

He won four FA Cups while at Arsenal and his three-year spell with Los Blancos earned him a La Liga title, Copa del Rey and Supercopa de Espana.

"For me, he was kind of a flair player, a little bit like [David] Silva," Toure said at a Football Black List event in London.

"Very clever, the movement just between the lines. Very good and his last pass was top.

"Another good player has retired, but I think now players understand the level of the game is so high now and unfortunately Mesut will retire, but maybe we'll see the next one in the future."

Ozil scored 33 goals and provided 54 assists in 184 Premier League appearances while at Arsenal.

"He was great in the Premier League," former Leicester City captain Wes Morgan added at the event.

"I know his Arsenal time probably ended not the way he wanted, but at the same time, we've seen some magical moments for him.

"I remember he came from Real Madrid and lit up the Premier League with his vision and his ability. He was a great player in the Premier League, fantastic to watch and hopefully he'll have a nice retirement."
