Wolves Dent Chelsea

Chelsea took an early lead against Wolverhampton Wanderers but could not hold on to it as they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat at the Molineux Stadium on Wednesday.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek shot Chelsea ahead in the 18th minute, feeding on Eden Hazard’s pass to fire in a shot, from the edge of the box, which deflected before passing Wolves goalkeeper Rui Patricio.

Maurizio Sarri’s Blues maintained the lead throughout the first half, but saw their frontiers collapse early in the second phase as Wolves struck twice in four minutes to turn the game on its head.

Raul Jimenez began the turnaround in the 59th minute when he made space for himself, after receiving Morgan Gibbs-White’s pass, to fire into the middle of the net.

The hosts gave the visitors no reprieve as Diogo Jota completed the comeback in the 63rd minute by latching onto Matt Doherty’s lovely pass to score with a close-range effort.

Chelsea’s defeat follows a 3-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspurs a few weeks ago, and the side which previously was tracking the unbeaten Manchester City, are now 4th on the league log with10 points adrift the leaders, and looks set to change course from fighting for the title to challenging for a top-four finish.

For Nuno Espírito Santo’s lads, the win is yet another statement of their invincibility to the big guns in the league, having already drawn against Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal this season.
