Wenger Wants Ozil Return For Germany

By Joshua Walters

Arsene Wener has advised Mesut Ozil to return to the German national team, stressing that the Arsenal player and the Die Mannschaft need each other to strive.

Germany went to the Russia 2018 World Cup as world champions, but exited the competition after the first round.

Ozil was partly blamed for Germany’s poor show in Russia, and a barrage of criticisms over the player’s meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an led to him retiring from the national team.

Ozil has been struggling for form at Arsenal as Germany continue to chase an elusive redemption after the World Cup exit, and Wenger believes the parties could solve each other’s problem by reuniting.

"I believe that Germany needs Ozil," said the former Arsenal manager who managed Ozil at the London club before stepping down this year.

"I hope that Low can convince him that he will come back. Ozil is a super football player, was not the worst in the World Cup. I did not like that he left the team."

"Because a little bit of motivation disappears when you know that you do not have to be ready for the World Cup and European Championship."

"I love it when the player is as good as possible. If he does not play on an international level, a bit is lost."
