Southgate To Show England Players Croatia Video
By Nigel Philips
Gareth Southgate will show the England players, video of the 2-1 World Cup semi-final defeat to Croatia ahead of the UEFA Nations League game against Spain on Saturday.
The Three Lions engage Spain at the Wembley Stadium, and coach Gareth Southgate believes they have a lot of lessons to draw from the semi-final defeat before then.
Kieran Trippier shot England ahead in the 5th minute, but the Three Lions’ quest for a final berth dashed with Ivan Perisic’s 68th-minute equalizer and Mario Mandzukic’s winner in the first half of extra time.
Southgate desires to build on the World Cup campaign, and he believes learning from their mistakes is the best way forward.
“I want to go through a full review of what happened in Russia, including watching the full horror of the Croatia defeat. There are valuable lessons to be learned - particularly from the second half of the semifinal match.”
It will be the second time the England players would go through the ordeal of watching the video of a painful defeat under Southgate.
Southgate made them run through their 2016 European Cup 1/16 stage 2-1 defeat to Iceland immediately after taking over the England job.
