Solskjaer Likens Man-Management Style To Ferguson
By Joshua Walters
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has likened his man-management style with Sir Alex Ferguson’s and said he learnt how to relate with players from the former Manchester United manager.
Solskjaer played under Sir Fergusson and was part of the Scottish's squad that won the 1999 Champions League trophy.
Solskjaer won the game for the Red Devils by emerging from the bench to score the winner with a goal late into extra time.
Solskjaer spent eleven years at Manchester United and has returned to the club as interim manager after the sacking of Jose Mourinho, who led the club to its worse Premier League run in history.
The former player, known in his playing days as a ‘super substitute’ because of the massive influence he brought to games from the bench, has taken over a team with players who have indiscipline and commitment issues.
Solskjaer told reporters at his maiden press conference, he will approach them with a style quite identical to Sir Ferguson’s no-nonsense approach called ‘hairdryer’ which made Manchester United one of the most disciplined sides in Europe then.
“The boss (Ferguson) will always be the best at that. I get my managerial style from him”, he said.
Solskjaer, however, hastened to add that he is a bit different from Sir Alex Fergusson in the way he handles players.
“He's been the biggest influence, but then again, we're different. I'm a different personality. I like to speak to people, I like to engage with people.”
“I want to see people express themselves. That makes me happy. About managing players, staff and it's about getting the best out of everyone.”
