Silva Feeling The Heat At Struggling Everton
By Max Wise
Everton manager Marco Silva admits he is under pressure to keep his job after Wolverhampton Wanderers condemned the Toffees to yet another defeat at Goodison Park on Saturday.
The 3-1 loss meant Everton have now lost seven of their last twelve league games and won just three, while they were dumped out of the FA Cup by Championship side, Millwall, last month.
Everton have dropped to ninth position on the Premier League log, following a bright start to the campaign where they threatened to gatecrash the European places.
“Of course, of course, I understand that. I am not here to find excuses or whine about something, of course, there will be questions about me.” Silva said when asked about the seemingly unimpressive run at the club.
“When everything goes well, they say good things about the manager and when something is wrong it is normal as well the manager gets pressure.
“For me it is something you know happens, to be honest with you.”
The 41-year-old Portuguese took over from Sam Allardyce at the beginning of the season following spells at Hull City and Watford.
Silva also issued a rallying call to his players to step up and be counted as he insisted they are relying too much on Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson, whose ten and nine league goals respectively amount to more than half of Everton’s 36 league goals this season.
“We have to solve the problems collectively and it is a moment for some players to come (to the fore) because you cannot always expect Richarlison or Gylfi to score”.
“Andre (Gomes) scored on Saturday but some of the other players have to show that capacity because they are there to do that and have the quality to do that.”
