Salah Stunner Inspires Liverpool Win Over Chelsea

Mohamed Salah scored a fantastic long range effort against Chelsea as Liverpool reclaimed top spot in the Premier League on Sunday.

Manchester City had briefly risen to the summit following a 3-1 win away at Crystal Palace earlier in the day but Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah’s second half goals means the title race will go down to the wire.

Liverpool’s victory takes them to 85 points, two points above Manchester City who have a game in hand while Chelsea are in fourth on 66 points.

Former Chelsea forward Mohamed Salah was the first to provide the first real offensive highlight of the game as he brilliantly volleyed Sadio Mane’s cross at the back post straight at Kepa in the visitors’ goal in the 7th minute.

Alisson was next to be tested by Eden Hazard in the 21st minute after the Belgian held off the challenge of Joel Matip to shoot towards the near post which was comfortably saved.

Mohamed Salah headed down Fabinho’s long pass to the Chelsea penalty area in the direction of Captain Jordan Henderson but his powerful effort was charged down for a corner five minutes later.

Mane then hit a first time effort with plenty of pace which flew wide of Kepa’s left post with many Liverpool fans thinking he had scored.

Then came the moment Liverpool fans were waiting for; Salah managed to win the ball in the box which fell the way of Henderson. The Liverpool captain lifted a cross back into the centre, and Sadio Mane who was completely unmarked nodded it into the net six minutes after half-time.

Just 142 seconds later, Liverpool doubled their lead, this time through Mohamed Salah’s screamer from 25 yards out which swerved constantly in the air before flying into the top corner.

Liverpool’s two quick goals sparked Chelsea into life, and the visitors could have halved the deficit but Hazard’s effort from David Luiz’s stunning ball over the top beat Alisson and hit the left post.

Hazard again forced Alisson into a crucial save in the 61st minute after he denied the Belgian from eight yards out following a cross from the right.
