Ronaldo Set To Receive Court Summon Over Rape Allegation
By Nigel Philips
Ex-Manchester United player Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to be summoned by the court to face the full glimpse of the law for rape allegations after lawyers of his accuser tracked his address in Italy.
The Portuguese forward completely denies claims he attacked Ms. Kathryn Mayorga at a Las Vegas hotel in 2009.
The case was reopened by the United State police last year October and Mayorga’s lawyers began hunting for the Juventus striker’s address since then.
Once the court summons is translated, lawyers of the 35-year-old Mayorga are expected to send it to Ronaldo in the coming weeks.
The 34-year-old Ronaldo’s spokesperson refused to comment about it but reiterated claims about Ronaldo been issued with a court summon were “totally false.”
In order to start a court proceeding, a US judge allowed more time to trace the home address of the Juventus star last month.
In 2009, the then Manchester United ace met Mayorga in a nightclub in las vegas after which she claims Ronaldo raped her in his luxury suite before giving her a staggering £295,000 in “hush money” which she accepted because she “felt intimidated.”
Somewhere last year, Kathryn Mayorga came out to identify Cristiano Ronaldo as her alleged attacker, which triggered the US police to revisit the case and to find justice for her.
The Portugal captain has distinctly denied the fiery allegations leveled against him.
At the time the issue surfaced, Ronaldo Tweeted: "I firmly deny the accusations being issued against me."
"Rape is an abominable crime that goes against everything that I am and believe in."
"Keen as I may be to clear my name, I refuse to feed the media spectacle created by people seeking to promote themselves at my expense."
He followed that tweet with a further message saying he had a completely "clear conscience."
