Premier League club Everton are investigating an incident involving their goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, who was at the centre of a fight at a nightclub on Sunday.

Video footage of the incident has been widely circulated on social media that shows the England international giving one fan the middle finger before being pulled away by onlookers as tempers boiled over.

The incident occurred outside a pub in Sunderland after Pickford watched his former club lose the Checkatrade Trophy final against Portsmouth at Wembley earlier in the day.

"At 12:19 am (Monday), police received a report of a disturbance involving a large group of individuals on Tunstall Road, Sunderland," a spokesperson said.

"Enquiries are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and locate those involved."

"Nobody is believed to have been seriously injured and no arrests have been made."

An Everton statement read: "The club has been made aware of an alleged incident involving one of our players and we are looking into the matter."

Pickford, who played in Everton’s 2-0 away win at West Ham United on Saturday, joined the Toffees from Sunderland in 2017 for £25m.

The 25-year-old goalkeeper has been one of England manager, Gareth Southgate’s key men since making his international debut in November 2017, playing a starring role as the Three Lions made it to the semifinals of the FIFA World Cup in Russia last year.

Pickford has been an ever-present in the Everton side this season, keeping 10 clean sheets in 32 Premier League appearances.
