Denmark great Peter Schmeichel, feels proud of his son, Kasper Schmeichel, following the Leicester City goalkeeper’s reaction after the helicopter crash at the King Power Stadium last month.
Leicester City's owner, Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, and four other passengers onboard the Thai businessman’s helicopter got burnt beyond salvage when the aircraft crashed into a car park at the premises of the King Power Stadium, seconds after taking off from the middle of the pitch.
Kasper Schmeichel was one of the first people to rush to the scene as emergency service personnel battled to put out the inferno.
The goalkeeper was restrained amid uncontrollable tears and would admit later that the thoughts of the incident will never leave his memory.
Kasper Schmeichel’s father, Peter Schmeichel, who was in goal when Denmark won the European Championship in 1992, believes his son is coping and has become a pillar in the Leicester community since the crash.
"I am proud of his reaction as the first thing he wants to do is help," said the Manchester United legend.
"He was running towards a burning helicopter. You don't want your kids to do that."
"He's done exceptionally well. He's come through a difficult time and I've tried to read his emotions and hopefully, it won't be a big reaction."
