Mourinho Describes Madrid Links As An Honour
By Joshua Walters
Jose Mourinho has described it as an honour that he is being linked with a move to European Champions Real Madrid.
The Portuguese trainer has once been the manager for the Spanish outfit, as he led them between 2010-2013 winning the LaLiga title in 2012.
Mourinho was sacked by Los Blancos following the club’s poor run to the start of the 2013 season though many people attributed his sacking to his poor relationship with his players.
With the hard-talking trainer now without a job, speculations are going around that the 55-year-old is once again being scouted by Real Madrid giving hope of a possible return to the club sooner than later.
Portuguese club Benfica has expressed interest in landing Mourinho, but the trainer, who has been on sabbatical leave since leaving Manchester United in December 2018, has turned down that offer while describing the speculations linking him back to Madrid as an honour.
“Today I have no intention of returning to Portugal,” Mourinho told Correio da Manha TV, following links to the Lisbon giants Benfica.
“Benfica aren’t an option for me today. [Returning to Madrid or Inter would be] a huge honour, but I’m talking to you and no-one else right now.
“When a Coach or player returns to a club, it means they did something positive. That’s how I felt when I went back to Chelsea.
“When a professional returns or is invited to return to a club, it’s a great honour. If you’re asked back, it’s because they know your worth.
“Now I have the right to relax, wait, have time to critique myself and analyse everything I’ve gone through in the last few years with calmness, to be able to think and prepare for the next phase of my career.”
