Luka Modric has revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo sent him a text to congratulate him when he won the UEFA 2017/18 Mens’ Best Player Award.
Modric received the award at the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League draw and awards event at Monaco for a category that had former Real Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.
The verdict did not go down well with Cristiano Ronaldo, and there were reports the Juventus star boycotted the event because he felt cheated, and that was confirmed by his manager, Massimiliano Allegri, who revealed that the Portugal captain was saddened by the situation.
Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes accused UEFA of ‘miscarriage of justice, and the fallouts led people to believe there was cold blood between the two players.
But, the Versatile midfielder has disclosed there is no problem between him and Ronaldo as the latter congratulated him after the award.
"I have a good relationship with Cristiano and I will continue to have him", he said after leading Croatia to draw 1-1 with Portugal in a friendly game on Thursday night.
"Individual prizes are important, but even more important is the collective: if individual prizes arrive, it is clear that I am happy, but above all, I want the good of the team. Cristiano talked to me after the UEFA award, he sent me a message to congratulate and tell me that he hopes to see me soon."
"As I have already told you, Cristiano and I have a good relationship and, regardless of what people say, we will continue to have it.”
