Cahill Plans Chelsea Exit In January
By Joshua Walters
Gary Cahill could leave Chelsea in the summer transfer window in January 2019 if his playing time is not improved at the Stamford Bridge-based club, according to Daily Mail.
The Chelsea captain has lost his place at the center-back under the new manager, Maurizio Sarri, who prefers Germany’s Antonio Rudiger and Brazil’s David Luiz to the England defender.
Cahill joined The Blues from Bolton Wanderers in 2012 for a fee of £7 million and extended his stay to the end of 2019 by signing a -four-year contract extension in 2015.
Cahill, 32, was a key member of the Chelsea side that won the 2012 Champions League by beating Bayern Munich on penalties at the Allianz Arena.
He was consistent under Antonio Conte, but has been put on the sidelines by Sarri, who have not featured him in any of the four Premier League games played this season.
The Dronfield-born player was Chelsea's deputy captain under John Terry, and was appointed the substantive captain following the departure of John Terry in the 2017/18 season.
Cahill’s lack of playing time at Chelsea has led him to lose his position in the England squad, and Daily Mail reports that the situation is compelling the player to want to opt out in January if things remain same.
