Lucas Torreira Reveals Struggling Moments In England

By Joshua Walters

Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira says life in England is something he is struggling to adapt to since joining the Premeir League from Sampdoria.

The defensive midfielder joined the Gunners after an impressive run with Uruguay at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

After successful talks with Italian side Sampdoria, Arsenal signed Torreira for a fee close to £27million as he became Unai Emery’s most expensive signing.

Torreira’s first season at the Emirates stadium was impressive as he made 50 appearances in all competitions and scored three goals for the side, having finished fifth on the league log and also reached the Europa League final as they lost 4-1 to city rivals Chelsea at Baku.

Despite the splendid season enjoyed by the aggressive midfielder, he reveals life in Italy was much easier for him than in England.

"I don't know if there are many things that I enjoy.

"The language [barrier] has stopped me being able to relate with my team-mates and with the people. It is very difficult when you can't have dialogue.

"And so is the climate. You go out in the morning and it is cloudy; you arrive late to your home and it is cloudy.

"It is strange a little bit, we are accustomed to always having the sun, or almost always. But as the years pass, I'm going to be adapting."

With Marco Giampaolo speculated to be named as AC Milan coach, Torreira has been linked with a reunion with his former manager at Sampdoria having endured a hard time adapting in England.

The 23-year-old midfielder is currently with the Uruguayan national team as they prepare for the Copa America in Brazil.

Uruguay will start their campaign against Ecuador at Mineirao, Belo Horizonte on June 17
