Loftus-Cheek Commits Future To Chelsea
By Joshua Walters
Chelsea midfielder, Ruben Loftus-Cheek has extended his stay at Stamford Bridge with a new five-year deal on Saturday.
The 23-year-old’s new deal is expected to expire in 2024.
With Chelsea under a transfer embargo for two transfer-windows, new manager Frank Lampard who do not want to lose key prospects in the squad has tied down the England international to fresh terms.
The versatile midfielder proved to be a regular element for the club last term but got injured in a friendly game in May as that made him miss Chelsea’s Europa League final win over Arsenal in Baku.
Loftus-Cheek after putting pen to paper at Stamford Bridge expressed his delight to have extended his stay at the club.
'I’m really happy and pleased that I get to stay here for another five years. It’s the place where I’ve grown up playing and hopefully I’ll be playing here for a lot longer,’ he said.
‘At eight or nine years old, of course, you never think you’ll be here for so long because you just want to enjoy yourself and play with your friends.
‘When I look back and see how the hard work has paid off, it’s a good feeling. That only makes me want to work harder to achieve more in the future.
'I hope to win a lot more trophies with the team and personally, it’s just about trying to do as well as I can and work hard to be a key player for Chelsea.’
The box-to-box winger scored six times for Chelsea in twenty-four Premier League games in the 2018/19 season.
Still nursing an injury, the midfielder is expected to miss the start of the season.
