Lewandowski Slams Bayern Display In Liverpool Defeat

Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has criticised his side for their display in the 3-1 defeat to Liverpool in the round of 16 second leg match of the UEFA Champions League at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday.

Bayern Munich, known for their offensive style of play, failed to glitter on this occasion as they were outplayed by last season's losing finalists.

After a goalless first leg at Liverpool's Anfield Stadium two weeks ago, Sadio Mane's brace and a Virgil Van Dijk header sent Liverpool through with Joel Matip's own goal for the Bavarians proving to be a mere consolation.

The Polish striker believes Bayern were too cautious in their approach and failed to threaten the visitors offensively.

"We didn't play so offensive, and that is why Liverpool couldn't play and score a goal in the first game," Lewandowski said via beIN SPORTS.

"We didn't make the risk, to play forward and try to score the goal. Today was also [the same] I think, we didn't try to play offensive, [play] forward and try to score the goals because we didn't have a lot of chances. I think that was our problem.

"I knew if we were playing too defensive it would be tough. We were playing at home but that wasn't our game today. That's why Liverpool beat us.

"Of course, we have to push again forward. We have the Bundesliga, a lot of games also in the cup. We're still on this way to win, maybe in the Bundesliga, that's why you have to push forward.

"Okay, I'm annoyed with what's happened today. I'm not happy, I'm angry because we know what we should do better but we didn't [do it]."

Robert Lewandowski has played twenty-four matches scoring 17 goals in the Bundesliga and scored eight in his eight Champions League appearances this season.

The former Lech Poznan striker joined Bayern Munich from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2014 on a free transfer, signing a five-year deal.
