Kovacic Eyes Prolonged England Stay
By Nigel Philips
Chelsea's Mateo Kovacic is reportedly eyeing an extended stay in the Premier League as reports say that he is looking to extend his stay in England.
The Croat has been on a season-long loan at Chelsea from Real Madrid since August, and the 24-year-old has gone on to make 29 starts and 11 substitute outings in all competitions for the Stamford Bridge club.
With the summer transfer window approaching, Chelsea are unlikely to commit the player to a permanent deal or extend his loan spell due to a two-season transfer ban imposed on them by FIFA.
Chelsea have appealed the ban and await the response from the world football governing body.
Marca, however, says that Kovacic is wishing to remain in England whether the appeal goes through or not.
The Spanish tabloid says Kovacic believe that he may not be able to enjoy much playing time should he return to Real Madrid.
Marca claims that Kovacic’s first option is to remain at Chelsea, but states further that the player, who has two years left on his Real Madrid deal, is prepared to sign for another club if his interests are met.
