Hummels Rejoins Dortmund From Bayern Munich

Matts Hummels has made a return to Borussia Dortmund for £34m, three years after leaving the Signal Iduna Park for Bayern Munich.
The 30-year-old defender spent three seasons in Munich, winning the Bundesliga in every one of those seasons as well as the DFB-Pokal in the last campaign.
Hummels’ return to Dortmund is subject to a medical as last season’s runners up in the Bundesliga continue to splash the cash in the transfer market.
Hummels is Dortmund’s fourth signing already in the embryonic stage of this summer’s transfer window after the acquisitions of Thorgan Hazard, Nico Schulz and Julian Brandt.
Hummels was nurtured in the Bayern Munich academy but left to join Dortmund in 2008, where he won two Bundesliga titles under current Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
Bayern snapped Hummels from Dortmund in 2016 but after three years at the Allianz Arena, he will be taking on a second spell at the Signal Iduna Park.
Hummels did not play as much as he would have liked last season, making just 21 Bundesliga appearances as Bayern Munich manager Niko Kovac alternated between him and Jerome Boateng to partner Niklas Sule in the centre of defence.
Dortmund manager Lucien Favre, who extended his contract by a year on Tuesday, will hope Hummels’ addition will provide his defence with some much needed experience.
Hummels was part of the Germany side that won the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, but he was recently ostracized by Joachim Low from the national team alongside Jerome Boateng and Thomas Muller to give chance to youth.
