Gonzalo Higuaín has apologised to AC Milan supporters for missing a penalty and also getting the sending off against Juventus on Sunday.
With AC Milan already down to Mario Mandzukic’s 8th-minute opener, the hosts got the chance to draw parity in the 41st minute when referee Paolo Mazzoleni awarded a penalty against Mehdi Benatia after a review by the VAR.
Higuain, who joined AC Milan from Juventus in the last transfer window, elected himself for the kick but struck the woodwork.
Cristiano Ronaldo made it two for the visitors in the 81st minute, and Higuain received the marching off orders two minutes later for indecency after a foul was given against him for a tackle on Mehdi Benatia.
“I want to apologise to everyone for my behavior on the pitch yesterday,” Higuaín wrote on his Instagram page after the match
“From my teammates to the club, to the fans, who have shown me their love since yesterday. I take responsibility and will do everything possible to ensure it doesn’t happen again.”
“We’re people too and we have feelings, but I’m responsible and I hope it won’t happen again. Some will understand, others won’t”.
