Hazard Hints Of Imminent Chelsea Exit
By Joshua Walters
Chelsea’s Eden Hazard is touting himself as the best player in the world currently and says he wants to join a club in Spain to achieve that officially.
The World Best Player award has, for the last decade, been dominated by players in the Spanish League with five each for Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Real Madrid are reportedly pursuing Hazard, and the Belgian is aware his chances of winning the award, officially, would be improved if he moves to the Bernabeu, but says he will not make that switch this January.
This came up at Belguims pre-match presser ahead of Friday’s UEFA Nations League clash with Switzerland, where Hazard was asked if he was the ‘best player in the world at the moment.’
“Yes, I have said yes before and so will say yes to you,” said the player who has seven Premier League goals and three assists this season.
The follow-up question asked if he can improve on his game which he answered in the affirmative.
“Of course I can improve. In football, you can score more goals and make more assists. The team has been very good to me and I feel I can improve more.”
The next questioner reminded Hazard that Spanish-based players have dominated the World Best player award over the last decade.
“Yes,” said Hazard. “That is why I want to go, maybe.”
Hazard However answered ‘no’ when asked if he would make that move in the January transfer window.
Chelsea are bent on keeping Hazard, but the number-10 player has been dilly-dallying with the club and failed to sign a contract extension tabled to him by the Blues.
