Gerrard: Liverpool Title Win Will Make Me Happiest Man In The World
By Max Wise
Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard says he would be ‘the happiest man in the world’ if his old side wins the Premier League title this season.
Liverpool have not been champions of the English top flight league for 29 years, but have had some near misses in the past.
The closest the Reds have come to winning the league in that period came in the 2013/2014 season when they led the way for much of the campaign, but capitulated with three games to go to concede the title to Manchester City.
Gerrard famously galvanised his side not to let their lead slip before kickoff in a crucial 36th league game at home against Chelsea, but ironically slipped himself in first-half stoppage time as Demba Ba took advantage to give the Blues the lead in a 2-0 victory.
Liverpool then threw away a 3-0 lead with eleven minutes to go in their next game away to Crystal Palace which all but ended their title hopes.
With eight games to go in the current campaign, Liverpool lead the table by 2 points and Gerrard is once again galvanising his old side, this time in a different capacity, to finally win the title.
"Believe me, I'm still feeling the pressure!" the current manager of Scottish side Rangers, told Liverpool's official website.
"It's in the back of my mind. I've got a day job now and all my focus is obviously on Rangers, but I've got one eye on Anfield and I just hope the lads can go and get us over the line because I'd be the happiest man in the world."
