Gattuso Hints Higuain Is Chelsea-Bound

AC Milan manager Gennaro Gattuso has dropped the strongest possible hint yet that Gonzalo Higuain is set to join his old boss Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea in the coming days.

Gattuso made the revelation in a press conference ahead of Milan’s Serie A game away to Genoa on Monday, having made the decision to drop the Argentine who is seeking a move to Stamford Bridge.

Higuain initially joined Milan on loan from Italian champions Juventus at the start of the season with the view of making the deal permanent at the end of the season but a paltry return of just six goals from 15 Serie A games has complicated the deal.

"I want to be honest with you all. We had a poor training session today due to all these rumours," Gattuso said.

"We spoke after the training session and I did not consider him [Higuain] ready for this game.

"I accept his decision. Surely he could have done more and maybe we could have helped him fit in better.

"Right now we have to work with professionalism and determination, all these rumours have not helped us lately and we have to look ahead.

"I am more worried about how to transmit calmness to the players and how to field the best team. Tomorrow [Monday] we will be without four players and I am a bit worried. We have to put it aside and play with enthusiasm.

Higuain enjoyed his most prolific season as a professional under Sarri at Napoli in the 2015/2016 season when he notched a record 36 goals in 35 Serie A outings.
