Gary Neville: There Is Nothing Left In Alexis Sanchez

By Max Wise

Former Manchester United captain, Gary Neville, has slammed Alexis Sanchez for his performance for Manchester United against relegated Huddersfield Town on Sunday.

Alexis Sanchez made his first start for Manchester United since early March in the 1-1 draw at the John Smith’s Stadium but was substituted after just 54 minutes for youngster Tahith Chong following another poor showing.

Sanchez, who is Manchester United’s highest earner on a weekly wage of £505,000, has failed to live up to expectations since joining from Arsenal in January last year.

The 30-year-old Chilean international has scored just three goals in 32 Premier League appearances for Manchester United since joining from the Gunners, and has struggled with form and fitness issues for majority of the 2018/2019 campaign.

Sanchez has been one of the Premier League’s most efficient performers since moving to England in the summer of 2014, but Gary Neville, who won eight Premier League titles with Manchester United, believes the Chilean international has lost most of his footballing abilities since moving to Old Trafford.

"The depths of despair for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Manchester United is how [Sanchez] has performed since he came to the club”, Neville told Sky Sports.

"It’s an absolute mystery. I don’t know if anyone can put any science or sense behind what has happened to him.

"It’s as if one the most tenacious football players you will ever see with and without the ball has lost absolutely everything.

"That’s from confidence, to his energy, to his legs, to his dribbling abilities, to his goals.

"There is nothing left in Alexis Sanchez at all. And we are still waiting for him to turn up.

"There are number of imminent decisions to be made on number of players at Manchester United and he is one of them."
