Evra: Sanchez Only Joined Man United For Money
By Nigel Philips
Patrice Evra believes that Alexis Sanchez’s sole aim for joining Manchester United was for financial reasons.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola put in a bid for Sanchez during the Chilean’s final days at Arsenal but the former Barcelona forward chose Old Trafford as the Citizens were offering less money.
Sanchez ultimately joined Manchester United in a swap deal involving Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and was put on a weekly wage of £505,000, making him the highest paid player at the 20-time English champions.
Sanchez has however failed to live up to expectations in the red half of Manchester due to poor form and a number of fitness issues.
The former Arsenal man made 27 appearances in all competitions for Manchester United in the just ended season, scoring just twice and has already been linked with a move away from the club.
Evra, who played for Manchester United from 2006 to 2014, believes the only reason Sanchez ignored Guardiola’s calls to move to the blue half of Manchester was money.
“Some players only come for the money, I am not afraid to say that,” Evra told Sky Sports.
“I have nothing against him, but Sanchez, when I saw the deal, that's when I thought the Manchester United history just went down.
“He had Manchester City, they were offering less money but he was going to play a better football than United - I'm sorry about that, but City play better football.
“Guardiola will also improve him.
“So I want to know what is the real reason for choosing United?
“Don't tell me he loved Manchester United when he was a kid.
“It's either the money or he wanted to be the number one, take the No 7 shirt and be the star.”
