Conte Nears Inter Milan Job As Club Looks To Replace Spalletti
By Joshua Walters
Antonio Conte is on the verge of taking over the managerial role at Inter Milan as the club deliberates on the future of the current manager, Luciano Spalletti.
Inter Milan failed to qualify for the knockout stage of the Champions League, following their drawn game with PSV on Tuesday night.
The Nerazzurri's unsuccessful run in Europe this year has cost the club about €17 million, leaving the management led by Steven Zhang to ponder over replacing Spalletti with Conte.
Conte has been on sabbatical leave since he was sacked by Chelsea at the end of last season.
The Giuseppe Meazza outfit have appointed a new sporting director in Giuseppe Marotta, who is not just a fan of Conte, but also has the Italian trainer on his wish list.
Marotta worked with Conte at Juventus, but reports in the Italian media suggest that Spalletti could still avoid the sack should he turn things around in the Europa League since the club is willing to allow him to finish his contract.
