Cavani Considering 2020 Retirement
By Joshua Walters
Edinson Cavani has hinted of his desire to retire in 2020 after the expiration of his contract with current club Paris-Saint Germain.
Cavana has made a mark in European football, earning the reputation as one of the deadliest strikers in the game.
The Uruguayan has clocked 31 but is still one of the most sought after players in the game while he is still a threat to opposition defenders while being a key member of the star-studded PSG team.
Cavani’s contract with PSG runs out next season with the club interested in extending his stay despite being linked with a number of high-profile European clubs in the January transfer window.
But, Cavani told Le Parisien he's uncertain what the next step in his career will be when his current terms at the Parc des Princes run out.
"Right now, I am playing towards the end of my contract (2020) and possibly my career. I will be 33 going on 34 when it is up. I do not know if I will continue after 2020 and if it will be in Paris. I feel good here, though, and I want to see my deal out."
The striker moved to the French capital from Napoli in 2013 and while he has rarely been the main man in attack for the team, he has had to share the spotlight with the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, but has provided a tremendous focal point through it all.
There was a time last season when it was doubtful as to whether Cavani would still be a PSG player in 2018, as the striker and Neymar were involved in an on-field dispute over who should take a penalty in a win over Bordeaux.
The issue, however, was resolved and the pair came out subsequently to disclose that everything was peaceful between them.
