Retired Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson will return to coaching again in May this year.

The former Scottish trainer, who handled Manchester United for 27 years, has been named to handle his old club in the 'Treble Reunion' match between the Manchester United squad that won the 1999 Champions League and their counterparts and losing finalists, Bayern Munich.

The ceremonial game which will be played at Old Trafford on May 26, is to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the final at the Camp Nou in Spain.

Manchester United will also use the occasion to raise funds into the Manchester Foundation for humanitarian duties across the world.

Manchester United confirmed their long-serving former manager will lead the players from the dugout on Friday, describing the Scottish as the best candidate for the task.

Ferguson best achievements during his days at the club was when he led the team to the Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup in the 1999 season.

Ferguson retired from coaching in 2013 after guiding the Red Devils to the club's 20th Premier League title and a personal 13th in-charge of the club.

The former Aberdeen manager has always wanted a day to meet up with his past players, and as such hailed the opportunity being offered by the game.

"I'm really looking forward to what will be a special day at Old Trafford,"

"It will be great to catch up with some familiar faces and a great opportunity to support the work of Manchester United Foundation."
