Aguero Scores Hat-Trick As City Sink Arsenal
By Max Wise
Sergio Aguero underlined his status as a true Premier League great as his 10th top flight hat trick led Manchester City to a 3-1 victory over Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
Manchester City by virtue of this result moves within two points of leaders Liverpool who play away to West Ham United on Monday
Arsenal, on the other hand, exchange positions with Manchester United who won at Leicester City earlier in the day.
Sergio Aguero, for the second time in less than a week, scored in the opening minute of a Premier League game after Alex Iwobi was robbed off the ball on the edge of his own penalty box by Aymeric Laporte, who crossed for the Argentine striker to head home from six yards out.
Manchester City had a legitimate appeal for a penalty waved away by Referee Martin Atkinson after Mustafi pulled down Aguero as he attempted to get onto a Kevin de Bruyne through pass a few minutes later.
Raheem Sterling soon after tested Bernd Leno from range a few minutes later which the goalkeeper managed to punch away.
Against the run of play, Arsenal equalised through captain Laurent Koscielny after he headed in a corner resulting from their first attack in the 11th minute.
That goal meant 10 of Man City's 20 conceded Premier League goals this season have come from set-pieces.
Sergio Aguero re-established Manchester City's lead a minute to half-time when he expertly finished a beautifully crafted goal following Sterling's low first time cross at the back post.
City piled more pressure on Arsenal after the break with Leno coming to their rescue at the second attempt after spilling Kevin de Bruyne's shot on 52 minutes.
Aguero scored his 10th Premier league hat trick on 61 minutes after he unintentionally turned in Sterling's deflected cross with his arm.
