Jerome Boateng Suspended For Two Bundesliga Games

Bayern Munich’s injury-hit defence has been hit harder with the news that Jerome Boateng will miss the club’s next two Bundesliga games through suspension.

Jerome Boateng Suspended For Two Bundesliga Games

Boateng was sent off less than ten minutes into last Saturday’s 5-1 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt for bringing down Goncalo Paciencia as the last man.

The game proved to be the last for manager Nico Kovac, who was dismissed less than 24 hours after the game.

Hansi Flick has been placed in temporary charge with Hermann Gerland acting as his assistant but they will have to do without the experience of Boateng for upcoming Bundesliga games against title rivals Borussia Dortmund and Fortuna Dusseldorf.

Boateng, 31, has made 10 appearances in all competitions for Bayern this season.

Bayern Munich do not have the option to appeal against the decision announced by the German Football Association on Tuesday.

Already the German champions are without the services of defensive shields Lucas Hernandez and Niklas Sule, who have succumbed to long-term injuries.

Benjamin Pavard has been left as the only fit recognised centre back left for the interim Bayern bosses and they will have to be crafty in finding a short-term solution.

Bayern Munich find themselves in an unfamiliar fourth position after ten matchdays on the Bundesliga table, trailing leaders Borussia Monchengladbach by four points.

The Bavarians do however have an impeccable record in the UEFA Champions League, with three wins out of three, as they lead Group B ahead of Tottenham Hotspurs, Red Star Belgrade and Olympiacos.

Boateng will be available to face Olympiacos on Tuesday as domestic suspensions do not apply in Europe.
