Demba Ba Not Sorry For Taking Advantage Of Infamous Gerrard Slip

Former Chelsea striker Demba Ba says he has no sympathy for ex-Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard after taking advantage of the latter’s infamous slip to deny the Anfield club the Premier League title in the 2013/2014 season.

Ahead of Sunday’s meeting between the two sides memories of that game have resurfaced as pundits liken circumstances surrounding the game to what happened five years ago.

Demba Ba, in from the start ahead of Fernando Torres, took advantage of Gerrard’s slip on the stroke of half time to give Chelsea the lead before a late Willian effort sealed all three points for the visitors.

'I didn't feel sorry for him,' Ba told the Sun. 'I'm not a Steven Gerrard supporter. I'm not a Liverpool supporter.

'I'm not a Man City supporter or happy that they won the league.

'It's all part of the game. It's the same as Crystal Palace last year when they were safe and had nothing to play for, they went and played at Stoke and sent them down by winning. You go and do your job, you go to win.'

On that occasion Liverpool were pushing for the Premier League title with Manchester City, while Chelsea had cemented their place in the top four with virtually nothing to play for but Jose Mourinho’s second string side shocked Anfield with an ultra-defensive approach that yielded two unanswered goals.

He added: 'I would say he put the reserve team out. A lot of the players that started that day were not in the starting XI every week.

'So we went out like this, but he still expected us to win.

'He was very motivated to win that game.'
