Chelsea Keen To Add Retiring Cech To Technical Staff

Chelsea are willing to offer Arsenal goalkeeper, Petr Cech, a role as member of their technical staff when he hangs up his gloves at the end of the season.

The 36-year-old former Czech Republic international spent 11 seasons at Stamford Bridge, winning four Premier League titles, four FA Cups and the UEFA Champions League in 2012.

Cech departed Stamford Bridge for Arsenal in the summer of 2015 after he lost his starting spot to Thibaut Courtois.

Cech announced his intention of retiring from football at the end of the season in early January, and is still assessing his options regarding his next career path.

Chelsea are yet to replace former technical director Michael Eminalo, who resigned in November 2017, with the club’s transfer chief, Marina Granovskaia, fulfilling portions of Eminalo’s duties.

It is believed that Chelsea want to bring back Petr Cech, who will unburden Marina’s responsibilities.

Cech still has a close relationship with club owner Roman Abramovich, and the pair are keen to link up again in a move that could see more former players make a return to the club in various capacities.

Cech began the season as Arsenal’s first choice goalkeeper, however, a hamstring injury sustained in September saw summer acquisition Bernd Leno take his place between the sticks.

Cech has been unable to dislodge Leno as Arsenal’s number one goalkeeper following his return from injury, and he has been restricted to appearances in the cup competitions.

Cech, who holds the record for the goalkeeper with most Premier League clean sheets, joined Arsenal from Chelsea in the summer of 2015 and has won one FA Cup in his time at the club.
