‘Zidane A Blessing From Heaven’- Florentino Perez Hails Madrid Boss After Super Cup Triumph
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has hailed manager Zinedine Zidane as ‘a blessing from heaven’ after the French tactician guided Los Blancos to a ninth trophy in nine finals under his tutelage.
The 13-time European champions defeated city rivals Atletico Madrid 4-1 on penalties following a scoreless 120 minutes of action in the revamped Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia on Sunday.
This is the first trophy Zidane has won in his second stint as Real Madrid manager since returning in March last year.
He previously led Real Madrid to three straight UEFA Champions League titles, the Spanish La Liga, two UEFA Super Cups, two FIFA Club World Cups and the 2017 Spanish Super Cup before resigning for a 10-month sabbatical.
Zidane reveled in his latest triumph despite being robbed off the services of Eden Hazard, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema, and Perez has been left impressed by his contributions following a difficult spell last season.
"[Zidane] has plenty of trophies and we're very happy for him," Perez said, as reported by Marca.
"I hope that he wins more trophies.
"Zidane has a loving relationship with Real Madrid. He decided to rest for a year and now he's returned with renewed energy. Zidane is a blessing from heaven."
"We came here without some great players like Hazard, Benzema and Bale," he said. "Zidane has been able to put together a team and we won the trophy.
"I think that we're on the path to finding ourselves again after a little dip. New people have come in who have given the team intensity and we're on a good path."
