Yerry Mina Plays Down Altercation With Messi At Copa America
Colombia defender Yerry Mina has played down his altercation with Lionel Messi at the recently concluded Copa America tournament in Brazil.
The former Barcelona teammates had a coming together during the penalty shootout of the semi-final game between Colombia and Argentina, which ended 1-1 after extra time, with the Albiceleste advancing to the final after Mina missed his kick.
Messi was seen taunting the Everton defender after goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez saved his effort but Mina insists he bears no ill-will towards the six-time Ballon D’or winner.
'What happened with Leo is something that can happen at any moment, this is football,' Mina said during a charity event in his hometown of Guachene.
'Life goes round in circles, it always gives you a second chance, but I am calm because I know that Leo is a great person.'
Mina added: 'I met him at Barcelona and I thank him for the support that he gave me, I will always respect him.
'I admire Messi for what he is, at that time we were both defending our National Team.
'If I could give my life for my national team, I would give it, but what happened was left [out on the pitch], there's nothing to it.'
Argentina went on to edge Brazil 1-0 in the final, claiming their first Copa America title since 1993.
