Werner Content With Assists Tally Amid Dry Goal Spell
Chelsea striker Timo Werner says he is content with laying on assists for his teammates as his dry spell in front of goal continues.
It has been more than two months since the Germany international last found the net for the Blues but he has been making up for that dry spell in other departments.
Werner provided the vital assist for Hakim Ziyech on Saturday as Chelsea defeated Manchester City 1-0 to advance to the FA Cup final, where they will face either Leicester City or Southampton.
The assist was Werner’s 12th of the season while he has scored 10 times in 42 appearances across all competitions.
"I’ve had more assists than goals, which is unusual in the last year for me. As long as it helps the team it’s fine,” Werner told BBC Radio 5 Live after the game.
"It was good that I got the ball right for Hakim."
Speaking about the game, the 25-year-old added: "I think the two best teams in England at the moment played against each other. It was a 50-50 game.
"We won because we made the counterattacks and got one goal. In the end we defended very well, like in the games before. I think we can say the best team won.
"In these types of games it’s very important to have good tactics, but in the end it’s the individual class that decides the game. That’s why we won the game."
